Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) continues to demonstrate its international prowess. The QS World University Rankings (QS WUR) 2025 released its latest rankings on Wednesday (6/5/2024), placing UNAIR at 308th among the world’s best universities. This annual achievement has earned UNAIR the prestigious title of The Most Improved University in Asia.

Professor Dr. Mohammad Nasih SE MT Ak, the Rector of Universitas Airlangga, expressed that UNAIR’s rise into the top 500 universities worldwide is an extraordinary blessing. He hopes that by 2025, UNAIR will achieve a position below 300.

“Being part of the top 500 universities globally is already an incredible blessing. Now that we are ranked 308th, it is indeed an extraordinary gift,” he said.

According to him, rankings serve as a benchmark for evaluating and improving various elements within the institution. “Rankings are not the primary goal, but they can serve as a comparison with other universities,” he explained.

Evaluation Indicators

Several evaluation indicators have propelled UNAIR to this position. The first is employer reputation, or the reputation of graduates in the job market. UNAIR ranks 80th globally and 2nd in Indonesia, with a 15-point increase from the previous year.

In the international research network (IRN) indicator, UNAIR ranks 1st in Indonesia and 701+ globally. Meanwhile, in the academic reputation indicator, UNAIR ranks 232nd globally and 4th in Indonesia, with a 22-point increase.

In the faculty-student ratio indicator, UNAIR holds the 259th position globally and 3rd in Indonesia, with a 42-point increase. For the international faculty indicator, UNAIR is positioned at 330th globally and 3rd in Indonesia, with a 49-point increase. Other indicators include sustainability, employment outcomes, citations per faculty, and international research network.

Professor Nasih emphasized that this achievement is the result of collective hard work. The unity among the academic community has been crucial in maintaining the quality of the university.

“Alhamdulillah, UNAIR remains focused, enthusiastic, and committed to achieving its goals. The civitas academica, including administrative staff, lecturers, alumni, and stakeholders, have a shared commitment to maintaining the quality of the university, and we achieve this together,” he explained.

The Most Improved University in Asia

This consistency and focus have led UNAIR to be recognized as The Most Improved University in Asia, evidencing its rapid development in the region.

“Alhamdulillah, UNAIR can focus on its work and maintain its enthusiasm. This shows our consistency in staying on the right path and serves as a foundation for continued progress,” he said.

This ranking improvement does not mean UNAIR will stop striving for betterment. Looking ahead, the Rector stated that UNAIR will continue to make improvements in various aspects. “We will identify issues and hold informal meetings. As soon as a problem arises, we will promptly make necessary corrections,” he concluded.
